Chloe Moriondo at the Majestic Theatre

By Katherine Stozicki

One of the most recent acts to appear at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre was Chloe Moriondo. As a part of her “Suckerpunch” Tour, named after her third studio album release, Moriondo ended the leg of her North American tour in her hometown.

Moriondo’s “Sukerpunch” Tour opened with a vibrant set performed by Dreamer Isioma. The 21-year-old first-generation Nigerian American artist’s music focuses on deep feelings, social issues, and being human.

Pushing genre norms, Dreamer Isioma’s music goes beyond the typical R&B standards combining indie, alternative, and jazz elements. Throughout their performance, Dreamer Isioma made it clear that no matter who you were, you were welcome at this concert.

Dreamer Isioma even threw roses into the crowd that a select few got their hands on.

Then, concertgoers got ready for Moriondo’s performance, cheering when Moriondo came on stage wearing all white, smiling for her hometown show.

Then perhaps one of the most energetic moments of the night came when Moriondo jumped off the stage, crowd-surfing for the second time on her tour.

Moriondo played a mixture of pop and acoustic songs, breaking out two cute, sticker-covered guitars in the middle of her show. Many of Moriondo’s acoustic songs played were off her second studio album Blood Bunny, showing off Moriondo’s love for love—a prominent theme in Moriondo’s writing.

Suckerpunch’s sound is much more driving than Moriondo’s previous two albums, straying away from themes of love and crushes. However, Moriondo made it clear that love will always be a theme she writes about, making sure she had written a love song for Sukerpunch before its release.

As the show came to end, fans ended the night dancing away. Detroit’s energy for Moriondo’s hometown shown was felt by everyone in the room, including Moriondo, who was emotional at the love her home showed.

Shortly after ending the North American leg of her tour, Moriondo said she would be canceling her upcoming European dates due to the cost of touring. For updates on Chole Moriondo, you can visit here website here. For upcoming shows at the Majestic Theatre, you can check out the schedule here.
